Please note The Extra Mile ran throughout March 2021 and May 2022, and Cerebral Palsy Alliance has made the difficult decision to pause this event from April 2023.  

This Privacy Notice tells you how Cerebral Palsy Alliance manages data and information provided through this website or other forms of communications if you were a previous general website visitor, participant and/or donor. While Cerebral Palsy Alliance no longer actively collects any participant and donor data related to The Extra Mile, we may send previous participants and donors marketing information and materials related to The Extra Mile and our other fundraising events, or to request your feedback for promotional purposes. You always have the right to opt-out of receiving such information. You may exercise that right by contacting us as set out below. 

The Extra Mile website is administered by Cerebral Palsy Alliance (ABN 45 000 062 288). This Privacy Notice is designed to tell you what will happen to the information you provide through this website or through other forms of communication with Cerebral Palsy Alliance in relation to The Extra Mile.

By using this website or otherwise providing us directly, or through others, with your personal information, you agree with the terms of this Notice and consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of that information in accordance with this Notice, the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) as amended (including the Australian Privacy Principles) (the Act) and other applicable privacy laws.

Cerebral Palsy Alliance is collecting your personal information (including:
generally: your name, date of birth, address, postcode, demographic information, contact details, telephone numbers, email address, information on how you use our services and programs and your preferences regarding our services and programs;
if you are a participant: your health information, medical requirements and emergency contact details relevant to you taking part in The Extra Mile event;
if you are a donor: your first and last name, email address, limited digits of your credit card, amount of donations given and who you are making your donation to;
so that we can:

  • contact you;
  • verify your identity;
  • manage our relationship with you;
  • address or respond to any requests from you;
  • better understand your needs in the area of support;
  • develop and improve the quality and scope of the services and programs we provide, and seek your feedback;
  • process any gifts or donations you make to us;
  • manage your participation any services and programs which we provide;
  • manage your participation in The Extra Mile event, our volunteering, fundraising or research activities and programs;
  • manage your corporate partnership with us;
  • assess your suitability to participate in the The Extra Mile event;
  • get in touch with your emergency contact in the case of an emergency during The Extra Mile event

We will also use the contact information details you have provided to send you marketing information and materials related to The Extra Mile event and our other fundraising events, such as by way of direct mail, telemarketing, by email, SMS, MMS or digital communications, or to request your feedback for promotional purposes.  You always have the right to opt-out of receiving such information.  You may exercise that right by contacting us as set out below.

We generally collect personal information directly from you, such as when you visit our website or otherwise contact and correspond with us (eg over the phone, via email or in person). For participants under 16 years of age, we collect personal information from your parent or guardian. Where it is not practicable to collect personal information from you, we may also collect personal information from publicly available sources of information, and, where you have provided your consent, from third parties.

If you do not provide us with the personal information we have requested, you may not be able to participate in The Extra Mile, and we may not be able to provide you with services, programs and assistance to the extent that they require us to collect, use or disclose personal information.

We may disclose your personal information to our related companies, contractors providing services to us, corporate sponsors and to other third party service providers (such as digital service agencies, medical staff, event organisers) we use in conducting our business. The entities to whom we disclose personal information are likely to be located in Australia.

We may also disclose your personal information where we are required or authorised by Australian law to do so, such as child protection laws.
