Event

What is The Extra Mile?

The Extra Mile is the newest virtual cycling event that challenges participants to go that extra mile for cerebral palsy.

Participants choose their distance (100km, 200km, or 500km) and log their kilometres on the website throughout the month of May - all while raising funds to help prevent, treat and work towards finding a cure for cerebral palsy.

When does The Extra Mile start and finish? 

The Extra Mile starts on the 1st May and runs throughout month of May. You can log your kilometres on the website from 1 May to 31 May 2021 - however you can start fundraising from the day you register, right through until the end of June.

When do registrations open? 

Registrations will open in March. In the meantime you can register your interest and we'll be in touch when registrations open.

Can our school register for The Extra Mile? 

Absolutely! You'll be able to do your registration and then you can start setting up your team.  There’s no limit to the number of team members you can have. 

Where does all the money raised go? 

All funds raised by participants will help prevent, treat and find a cure for cerebral palsy.

Money raised will help purchase life changing equipment, fund crucial services and research projects into the causes and treatment of cerebral palsy.

Can I register from overseas?

If the Extra Mile doesn’t operate in your country, you can still participate by registering on the Australian website. Keep in mind, any donations made to the Australian event (regardless of the country they are made from) will be made in Australian dollars and will not be tax deductible.

How do I form a team? 

During the registration process, you will be given the option to create or join a team.

If you create a team, you will be able to invite participants to join your team when they register. Each team member will then need to complete their registration online.

How do I join a team? 

During the registration process, select Join A Team and start typing your team’s name. If you have been sent an invitation from a team captain, simply click the link in the invitation and complete your registration.

What is a Team Captain? 

The Team Captain is the person who created and registered the team. 

How many people can I have in my team? 

You can have as many people as you would like in your team.  We suggest having between 4 – 6 people to add some extra fun and friendly competition.

If you don’t have a team, you can still participate as an individual.

Can I participate as an individual? 

Yes! Simply sign up as an individual during your registration. You can always invite team members down the track if you change your mind.

How do I add team members?

If you didn't add team members during registration, you can do so via your dashboard.

To add Team Members:

  1. Log in to your dashboard
  2. Go to 'My Team'
  3. Go to 'Team Members' and enter their details in the 'Invite others to join your team'

They will then receive an email with further instructions to complete the registration process.

If you registered as an individual you will need to create your team. You can do this once logged in and selecting 'Create a Team Page' when in your dashboard. Then simply follow the steps above.

How do I change my team name?

The Extra Mile team will be able to help you with that. Just contact us and we’ll give you a hand. Let us know your team name so we can help you change it.

Can I be part of more than one team?

No. Each participant is only able to be registered in one team.

I need to change the team I am in – how do I do this? 

We can help you with that, just contact our team and we’ll give you a hand.

Donations

How do I make a donation? 

Click on Donate at the top right-hand corner of the website. On the next page, you will be able to search for a participant or team, or make a general donation to the event.

How do I share my donation on my social channels? 

You will find the icons for many social channels on the Get Support tab within your fundraising dashboard, simply choose which channel you want to share to. You can also share directly from your fundraising page.

My donation didn’t appear and I haven’t been charged for it. 

It sounds like something might have gone wrong.

Please make sure you’ve completed all fields on the donation page. If this still doesn’t work, use the contact form here to get in touch. 

When your donation has been successfully processed, you will receive a tax receipt via the email address you provided.

What is a tax-deductible donation? 

A tax-deductible donation is any donation over $2 that was not given in exchange for goods or services. Examples of payments that are not tax-deductible include:

  • Registration fees
  • Purchases of raffle tickets
  • The cost of attending fundraising dinners (even if the cost exceeds the value of the dinner)
  • Any funds donated from outside of Australia

How will my donation to The Extra Mile appear on my bank statement?

Any donation you make should appear as ‘The Extra Mile,’ on your bank statement.

Fundraising

How can I find sponsors? 

Ask! It may seem scary, but most people are happy to help. Start by sharing The Extra mile website with your friends and family and challenge them so sign up too!

If my sponsor makes a donation to my team via the website, will they receive a tax receipt?

Yes. If the donation is $2 or more, a tax receipt will be sent to their nominated email address immediately. Make sure your sponsors checks their junk mail for their tax receipt if they haven’t received it.

Do I have to fundraise as a team or can I do my own activities?

That’s up to you! All funds raised by you and your Team Members will be combined to reach your team target.

Facebook has a 'Donate' button option that allows for easy fundraising for a cause. Should I use that?

We wouldn’t recommend using Facebook’s ‘Donate’ button to raise funds for The Extra Mile as we can’t link any donations back to your individual fundraising page and these won't appear on the leader board. If you’ve already set up a post using this function, we suggest that you:

  1. Delete the post, as this is the only way to remove the Facebook Donate button,
  2. Create a new Facebook post and share the link to your fundraising page without adding the ‘Donate’ button.

If a sponsor has already donated using this Facebook 'Donate' button, Cerebral Palsy Alliance will still receive the funds as long as you've selected us as your charity. As these donations are held by a third party for a number of weeks it may not appear in our accounts until after The Extra Mile has already finished.

Our team has reached our fundraising target, what happens now?

Great work! Why not keep the momentum going? Your Team Captain can increase your team’s target at any time on the My Team page.

Do I have to wait for The Extra Mile to start before I can start fundraising?

No. You’re welcome to start fundraising as soon as you register.

Is The Extra Mile website secure?

Yes. The Extra Mile website uses SSL technology to encrypt your personal data when it is transferred from your browser to the website. Your personal details are protected on our servers, which are PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) compliant. We never store any credit card details on our servers.

Where can I find fundraising materials?

On the Resources page, you’ll find a range of promotional material you can use.

There are ready-to-use posters to print and display in your workplace, as well as poster templates that you can customise to fit your needs.

What happens if I don’t reach my fundraising target?

Your fundraising target is just a guide to motivate you and your team throughout the challenge. Any fundraising you do will make a huge difference to children and adults living with cerebral palsy.

Activity

Is there an Extra Mile app to log my rides?

For the launch of The Extra Mile we will not have an app.

However, if you want a fast and easy way to log your rides on your phone, we recommend saving our web page to your home screen on your device. This will appear just like an app icon and will launch The Extra Mile webpage directly in Chrome.

Simply follow the below instructions for both iPhone and Android:

iPhone

  1. Launch Safari on your ‌iPhone‌ or ‌iPad‌. 
  2. Navigate to The Extra Mile website. 
  3. Tap the Share icon (the square with an arrow pointing out of it) at the bottom of the screen. 
  4. Scroll down to the list of actions and tap Add to Home Screen.

Android

  1. Launch “Chrome” app.
  2. Open the website or web page you want to pin to your home screen.
  3. Tap the menu icon (3 dots in upper right-hand corner) and tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. You'll be able to enter a name for the shortcut and then Chrome will add it to your home screen.

How do I log rides and activities?

You can log your kilometres from your dashboard on the Extra Mile website during  the month of May. 

Simply select Log My Rides from the menu and input the rides and activities you have completed for the given date.

After you have done this your rides will appear below in the "My Activity" section.

How do I delete rides I’ve added by mistake?

If you make a mistake while entering your rides, log into The Extra Mile website and log into your dashboard.

Then, simply click on the red cross next to the entry you wish to delete. If you have any issues contact the team and we'll be able to help.

When is the deadline for fundraising/logging rides?

Access to log your rides will be open for a few days following the challenge completion.

Donations can still be made up until midnight on the 30th of June.

I started logging my KM's before the 1st May 2021, where have they gone? 

The Extra Mile challenge is for the month of May, so any KM's logged prior to this will be reset to zero on 1 May 2021.

Good on you for trialing the system prior to 1 May 2021.

Can I connect an app to The Extra Mile for logging my KM's?

Yes, you can!

On your dashboard you will find the tab 'My Fitness Activity' and here you can connect to the STRAVA app. You KM's will be visible the next day.
